The PlayStation Vita is a handheld video game platform created by Sony Interactive Entertainment and the follow-up to the PlayStation Portable. Released in Japan on December 17, 2011 and in North America and Europe on February 22, 2012. The Vita combined the traditional PlayStation control layout (4 face buttons, 2 analog sticks, directional pad and shoulder buttons) with a 5-inch multi-touch touchscreen and a unique rear touch panel. Dual cameras and a SIM card slot for original models round out its smartphone-like feature set. The Vita is also capable of streaming PlayStation 4 and some PlayStation 3 games over local and remote internet connections.
