Delisting

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was delisted on PlayStation Vita and Xbox 360 in December of 2013 alongside Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. The delisting was announced on the Capcom-Unity forums on December 13th, 2013 with specific dates per region:

  • 12/17 for PSN in North America
  • 12/19 for PSN in Europe
  • 12/26 for XBLA globally

No explanation was given but Capcom’s license to Marvel properties was clearly the cause for the delistings.

Nearly one year later in December of 2014, Capcom’s remaining digital Marvel title, Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, would be delisted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Shortly after that, on January 1st, 2014, many of Activision’s Spider-Man and X-Men titles would be delisted. Similar expired licenses from Marvel were the cause for all of these delistings.

New Release, not Relisted

During E3 2016 Marvel Games vice president Jay Ong acknowledged the ever-present demand for a new Marvel vs. Capcom game and teased the possibility with a vague “who knows what the future holds” remark. Later in 2016 Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite was revealed and with a new license came the opportunity to revisit Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. While a new update of the game was released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, the original digital versions on PlayStation Vita and Xbox 360 were not relisted.
