Final Fantasy XIV returns to sale on January 25th

Roughly one month after Final Fantasy XIV was removed from sale with heavy server loads causing login and stability issues, producer/director Naoki Yoshida has shared plans for the game’s return. The post from January 13th includes details on new and upgraded data centers to better accommodate players worldwide and concludes by confirming that sales of the game will resume on January 25th at 5:00pm (JST). However, Yoshida states that the game may once again be pulled from sale if another surge in player activity bogs down existing servers.

In the event servers continue to experience extreme levels of congestion, we may consider suspending digital sales again. We are aware that certain Worlds are experiencing high server traffic at peak times, and while some may consider this decision to resume sales to be premature, we ask for your understanding in this matter.

Although the game will be back on sale, players looking to try before they buy will still have to wait a while longer. In a final note on the subject Yoshida adds that free trials of the game will resume “after monitoring server stability a while longer”.
