The Walking Dead: Betrayal shuts down December 15th after only three months on sale, refunds to be issued for all purchases

Just a few months after its launch in September The Walking Dead: Betrayal is already preparing to shut down on December 15th. The announcement was posted on the game’s Steam Store page yesterday:

After considering a variety of paths forward, and with a great deal of discussion and reflection, Skybound Games and Other Ocean Interactive have decided to stop development on The Walking Dead: Betrayal. Despite the hard work put into the game, we were not able to find a path to build the spirited community of backstabbers we originally envisioned.

On December 11, we will begin the process of removing the game from Steam, and as of December 15 the game will be shut down. All players who purchased the game will receive a full refund. We will provide updates on refunds here on Steam and on the TWD: Betrayal Discord.

Thank you to everyone who played, betrayed, and provided feedback! Your support and engagement mean everything to us. We look forward to bringing more awesome The Walking Dead experiences to you in the future.

Steam Announcement – December 07, 2023

The game saw close to 1,000 daily active players during its free-play launch weekend but quickly dropped to just dozens of daily players after that. With rounds supporting up to 8 players at a time that doesn’t add up to many full lobbies. The unengaged audience is likely the cause behind the quick decision to shut things down before the end of 2023. Thanks to HandMaskTar for pointing out the news on this one. We’ve added the dates to the Watch List calendar and will have a page up on the site later.
