Missile Command: Recharged (2020) was delisted on Steam on October 28th, 2022 and was likely delisted on Nintendo Switch that same day or leading up to the November 1st, 2022 release of Missile Command: Recharged. The 2022 release saw graphical and gameplay improvements compared to the 2020 original which brought it in line with Atari’s newer Recharged releases of Atari classics.
Ahead of the delisting Atari’s twitter account announced on October 14th that the original release would be removed from digital stores while a developer account on the game’s Steam Community forum explained in further detail on October 28th:
Long story short: When Missile Command: Recharged was first released in 2020, it was as a general pilot for the Recharged project, and looking back at it, we’ve come quite far since then. We were just not truly happy with calling Missile Command: Recharged the best remake we could make for the original game, and so we decided to go back and revisit it.
The new game comes with a new soundtrack, better gameplay, gamemodes, challenges, and many of the things added to the more recent Recharged games that has come out since.
Of course, this will also amount to a higher price than the first “test game,” but anyone who owns Missile Command: Recharged now before release of the second version will get the original remake’s price in reduction. So anyone currently owning Missile Command: Recharged can get the new version of the game for $3 off!
And though the old version of Missile Command: Recharged has now been taken off the store, you can still continue to play it after V2 comes out on Nov 1st if you want!
I hope that brought some clarity to the situation. We get it can be a bit confusing – I initially found it confusing myself, heh.Steam Announcement – October 28, 2022
