Delisting
The Games on demand release of Mercenaries 2: World in Flames was delisted on Xbox 360 between March and April of 2011 based on Archive.org captures. Interestingly, the game would launch on EA’s new Origin marketplace just a few months later on June 3rd, 2011 after having been sold as a direct download on EA.com since 2008. The timing of the game’s delisting on Xbox 360 just ahead of the launch of Origin may suggest that EA was realigning its digital releases around this time causing the specific Games on Demand version to be pulled from sale.
Mercenaries 2 was next delisted on Origin no later than August 5th, 2021 as noted by several reddit and forum threads. By September of 2021 user reviews on Walmart.com also confirmed that download codes for the game were no longer functional even after being purchased. The cause for this delisting is uncertain but other EA titles began disappearing from Origin around this time as well.
Electronic Arts then announced around August 12th, 2022 that online services for all existing versions of the game would be retired by November 9th of that year. The game remains available on retail for both consoles and PC.
