Delisting

Liquid Bit announced on October 4th, 2022 that Killer Queen Black would be removed from sale and that its online features would go dark on November 30th due to the termination of GameSparks online services. The game was then delisted on Steam on October 6th and likely around the same time on Xbox One, Google Stadia, and Nintendo Switch (AU, EU, JP). At the time, the game remained on sale on Nintendo Switch in North America, but as of March 2024, it is no longer available.

Although lacking online features after November 30th, all previously purchased versions of the game can still be played in offline, local multiplayer. On December 13th, 2022 Liquid Bit surprised owners of the game on Steam by announcing a “beta” branch build of the game that implemented a workaround to enable online spectator modes and custom online matches.

It’s with a heavy heart that we’re announcing that after three amazing years, KQB will be going offline on November 30’th, 2022.

This is not something that was planned or foreseen. KQB was built on top of Amazon GameSparks, the service that provides the backend functionality for our game. Unfortunately, Amazon decided to shut down this service on September 30’th. We moved mountains and spent a treasure to migrate to a different provider, but unfortunately, the task amounted to an almost complete rewrite of the game, and that’s just not in the cards for Liquid Bit at this time. We’re working on plans to open-source the game, and hopefully, with some luck and support, it will rise again in the future.

We know that this comes as a shock and disappointment to many of you that have spent so much time and energy playing our game and making the community the great place that it is. We can assure you that we are just as disappointed as you are.

Please know that we did everything possible to keep the online component alive – unfortunately, it was just out of our capability as an indie developer. We did, however, secure a two-month extension from Amazon to use the service until November 30’th so our league play could conclude uninterrupted.

Liquid Bit is marching on, and we’re continuing to build out our new title, which we hope to share very soon. Rest assured, we will make sure issues of this nature are not able to thwart our production or shut down our future online games again.

It’s been a wild run and I am grateful for everyone’s support. Thank you. – Matt Tesch

About the Game

Killer Queen Black, inspired by the hit arcade game, Killer Queen, let’s you fight for your hive with three ways to win. Will you claim your victory by hopping on the snail, hoarding berries, or wiping out the enemy’s queen?

Attack, fly, and stay alive. If you are playing queen, you’ll want to protect your hive and your workers. The responsibilities don’t stop there, having a strategy in place will be beneficial, but you’ll also need to be fluid and keen on your opposing team’s strategy.

Want responsibilities but rather hustle than dodge death? Workers excel in adaptability which makes them essential for carrying out game-winning objectives. Initially defenseless, workers collect berries and head to the hive, however, they can also boost their speed and become soldiers. These transformed workers wield maces, swords, shields, and laser rifles, to quickly become deadly aggressors.

  • Intense four on four team combat
  • Eight-player local and online play supported
  • Cross-platform multiplayer includes in-game voice chat
