Fortress V2 shutting down on Steam March 22nd

Fortress V2, a multiplayer take on the classic Scorched Earth and Worms gameplay that launched on Steam in 2020, will be shutting down in just about two months on March 22nd. The announcement was posted back in December with DLC purchases disabled shortly thereafter but the free-to-play game remains available for interested players until March.

This is Fortress V2 development team. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the users who have shown interest and support in Fortress V2.

After much deliberation, it was decided to end the service of Fortress V2, and this is how we inform our users.

The service continued for about 720 days from December 31, 2020 to the present, but due to deteriorating revenue, it was impossible to maintain the service any longer, so it was decided to terminate the service. In addition, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the users who have sent us support and encouragement for Fortress V2.

Fortress V2 will be maintained on the server for about 90 days until March 22nd.

Please check the details below for service termination.

Steam Announcement – December 25, 2022

As the post explains, player counts were difficult to maintain with less than 50 active daily players since around the game’s launch three years ago. Fortress V2 was developer Retiad’s and publisher COWON’s only title on Steam. Although it is labeled as including single-player content the entire game will become unplayable after March 22nd. I’ve added the date to the Watch List calendar and we’ll have a page up on the site later. Thanks to Serrated-banner9 for submitting the news to the site.
