Delisting

The team at Thirdverse announced on April 14th, 2022 on Twitter that only the PlayStation VR version of Swords of Gargantua would be removed from sale and shut down later in the year. The game was scheduled to be removed from the PlayStation Store on June 30th with the game shutting down entirely on September 30th. The team’s announcement follows:

Thank you for your continued support of “Swords of Gargantua”. This announcement is to inform our users that the PlayStation VR version of “Swords of Gargantua” will discontinue its service on September 30, 2022.

After this date, you will no longer be able to play the PlayStation VR version of “Swords of Gargantua” app, but can still continue to enjoy the Meta Quest and PCVR versions of the game. The development team would like to thank everyone who has enjoyed the PlayStation VR version since its launch on the platform.

Then on July 29th, 2022 the team would announce the same September 30th deadline for the Meta Quest and PCVR releases of the game with those versions being removed from sale on August 31st, 2022. Leading up to the scheduled dates however, the team announced on August 25th that Swords of Gargantua would return in early 2023 but would still be shut down on September 30th to allow the server infrastructure to be moved. The HTC Vive release of the game would not be returning to sale.

After internal discussion and in response to our community’s opinions and multiple requests, we are happy to announce that the service of “SWORDS OF GARGANTUA”, which we previously announced would be terminated on September 30th 2022, will be resumed for Meta Quest and PCVR in early 2023.

To prepare for the continuation of the online service, the service will be temporarily suspended on September 30, 2022 to allow time for online server relocation and additional technical modifications so that we can reopen service in early 2023. We are also planning support for an offline mode in the future.

Future announcements will be shared through the official “SWORDS OF GARGANTUA” social media pages. We know dedicated fans have spent thousands of hours in SWORDS OF GARGANTUA, and so we will continue to make sincere efforts to ensure that players can continue enjoying VR content.

Steam Announcement – August 25, 2022

The game was then relaunched on Steam and for Quest and Oculus devices on March 2nd, 2023. Previously an always-online, multiplayer title, the updated release added an offline practice mode although an internet connection was required on the first launch to sync up previous player data. Should the game be shut down again, this single player content is now likely to remain available.
