Delisting
Disney Infinity (aka Disney Infinity 1.0, Disney Infinity: Toy Box Challenge [3DS], Disney Infinity – Digital Version [Wii U]) was delisted from Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U between September of 2014 and March of 2017. The exact date is uncertain but it could have been as early as 2014 following the release of Disney Infinity 2.0 or as late as March 3rd, 2017 when the series’ Online and Community features were shut down. Another probable date for the delisting is September 30th, 2016 when the dedicated PC, iOS and Android versions of the game were delisted.
To Infinity and… until about 2017
Despite the initial success with Disney Infinity and the “toys-to-life” market, consumer interest proved difficult to grow and the decision was announced in May of 2016 to shut down development and support. This included closing the development studio Avalanche Software. Previous to this, Disney Interactive was merged into ‘Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media’ in mid-2015. The change in leadership could also have led to the decision to put an end to Disney Infinity along with most other Disney-produced games.
On July 29th, 2016 Disney Interactive announced a timeline for the end of Disney Infinity. By September 30th, the game was removed from availability through its dedicated PC client and on iOS and Android devices. On the same day, the Community features for all versions of the game were retired and no new user-generated “Toy Boxes” were made available.
In September of 2016 Disney Interactive announced that the Steam version of Disney Infinity 2.0 would need to be replaced in order to accommodate the changes in online features. The original 2.0 release was delisted on Steam on September 30th, 2016 and replaced on December 10th, 2016 with Disney Infinity 2.0: Gold Edition. Disney Infinity 3.0: Play Without Limits was also delisted on December 10th and replaced with Disney Infinity 3.0: Gold Edition.
Finally, on March 3rd, 2017 all online features for all versions of Disney Infinity were shut down.
