Delisting
Toy Soldiers, Toy Soldiers: Cold War, and Toy Soldiers: War Chest were delisted on consoles in mid-to-late October 2020. Toy Soldiers Cold War: Touch Edition on Windows PC was also delisted around this time. Check the table above for more specifics. On May 27th, 2020 Signal Studios announced that they had acquired the IP rights to Toy Soldiers and were developing updated versions of the first entry and Cold War for new platforms. It appears that this change in ownership was the cause for the delistings, either due to licensing terms changing or Signal Studios hoping to avoid confusion with older releases. The Facebook post adds a few more details and follows in full:
Hope everyone is as well as can be in these trying times. Here’s my version of a press release. It resolves the whole last 5 years and the next one too –all in one post! We officially own the Toy Soldiers IP for the first time, strangely, ever. (Ascend now too-well get to that i swear-Ascenders) We’re developing updated versions of both the original Toy Soldiers and Toy Soldiers: Cold War so that we may properly introduce them to all the platforms. Expect more than just ports from these and we’ll figure out the Steam folks. None of this prevents us from developing the sequel, Finest Hour. We’re taking it back to where it should be. History. Reverence. WW2, The spirit of the original. That one is going to take a bit of time though.
Ubisoft still publishes and controls WarChest. We are aware that there are issues with the game and have been for a while. It really has been and remains outside our control. What we can do is offer a much belated apology to those who are rightfully pissed while working towards figuring out how to solve the problem. Now that we have a little more say in the matter-one way or the other- we will make that situation correct for people. As of December 2020 it appears that Toy Soldiers HD and Cold War HD (along with a new entry in the series) will be released in 2021 with Accelerate Games as publisher. Free or discounted upgrades will likely be extended to owners of the Steam versions which remain on sale as of this writing.
