Savage 2: A Tortured Soul was first removed from Steam on or close to October 10th, 2013. The game’s absence was first publicly noted on January 18th, 2014 and addressed shortly thereafter by Stony, a known relation to S2 Games. According to Stony, Valve would not approve of the game changing to free-to-play without DLC or micro-transactions to support it and instead removed it from the store.

Savage 2 remained available on Desura until the service was shut down in September of 2016. One of the last public efforts to rally players to the game on Desura came much earlier in April of 2014. If the game was not already inaccessible by the end of 2016, it definitely became unplayable by October of 2018 when S2 Games silently ceased operations and shut down support for their other titles.

Like Savage before it, a community-based team named Tales of Newerth began to run servers of their own and provide access to the game beginning no later than the Fall of 2018. Similarly, most of the remaining players have moved to a dedicated Discord server to coordinate their playtime.
