With the news that the eShop for 3DS and Wii U will be closing in 2023, The Pokémon Company has made their own announcement regarding Pokémon Bank. The app, originally released in 2014, now allows players to transfer and store up to 3,000 Pokémon from more than a dozen titles for an annual fee. After the eShop has closed in March of 2023 The Pokémon Company will remove the fee and allow existing owners to use Pokémon Bank for free.
Of course, once the eShop closes you won’t be able to download Pokémon Bank so you’ll need to grab the app ahead of the same March 2023 deadline in order to use it. The Pokémon Company also specified that the service will eventually be terminated but that a date for that has yet to be decided. Meanwhile, service for Pokémon Home, the successor to Bank, will continue to operate without change although you’ll still need to subscribe to that service in order to move many Pokémon from Bank to Home.
