Delisting
Phantasy Star Portable 2 was delisted from the North American PlayStation Store in early December of 2011, according to reports from the PSO-World forums. On December 21st, 2011 forum user CosmoClock21 emailed SEGA for comment regarding the game’s delisting. SEGA’s email reply follows:
Hi,
The removal of Phantasy Star items from the PSN is unintentional and they should be back up soon. There have been no announcements made regarding the status of Phantasy Star Portable 2 and I can not re-direct you to anyone else.
Best Regards,
Evan
SEGA Customer Support
Despite the claim that Phantasy Star Portable 2’s delisting was unintentional, the game would be delisted in Europe at the end of February 2012. Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity was delisted in Japan on February 19, 2014. The original release of PSP2 was confirmed to have remained available in Japan during this time but has since been removed at an unknown date.
The worldwide delisting of Phantasy Star Portable 2 was most likely the result of expired licensing of the various collaboration items featured in the game, ranging from Evangelion to Pizza Hut. Sega may have decided not to renew the licensing and continue supporting the title, possibly in order to place more resources onto Phantasy Star Online 2. The game remains available on physical media.
