Minecraft dropping PlayStation VR, OpenXR support in 2025

No, Minecraft isn’t being delisted (again) but Mojang has announced the impending end of PlayStation VR and OpenXR support for the game in their latest changelog.

Our ability to support PlayStation®VR  has come to an end, and will no longer be supported in updates after March of 2025. After you receive the final update, you will still receive updates on your PlayStation® and be able to play without PlayStation®VR. From this point on you can keep building in your worlds, and your Marketplace purchases (including Tokens) will continue to be available. You will no longer be able to use your PlayStation®VR with Minecraft as it will no longer be supported in the latest updates.

In a support page post that outlines the game’s evolving hardware requirements, Mojang has also confirmed that support for OpenXR, the “open-source, royalty-free” VR platform will be dropped in March of 2025. Meanwhile, Minecraft.net’s page about VR support — which had been online since 2017 — was also recently taken down. On Meta.com the game’s store page still exists but the option to buy the Rift compatible release has since been removed. That one may have happened a while ago, I couldn’t find any captures to compare.
