Developer Jandisoft announced earlier today that their strikingly grim MMORPG, Mad World, will be shutting down on July 4th despite the game having just launched on Steam in January. Looking back at their updates, the game appears to have struggled with design and stability issues as it moved from alpha testing to open beta status as far back as 2021. A 1.0 release was planned for April 27th, 2023 but was later delayed as the team acknowledged the game’s shortcomings and laid out a plan to move forward. At the time they admitted that “Mad World has been managed in a mad way” but apparently they weren’t able to pull things together, now announcing the game’s upcoming closure.
We would like to express our gratitude and apologies to everyone who has loved Mad World. We deeply appreciate the many thoughtful advice and feedback you have given us, and for always recognizing the positive aspects of Mad World. Although we have strived to create a more enjoyable game, we regret to inform you that Mad World’s service will end on Wednesday, July 4, 2024.
We sincerely apologize for delivering this unfortunate news to all of you who have enjoyed Mad World for so long. Thank you to everyone who has used Mad World, and we will do our utmost to provide the best service until the end.

- Purchased between May 6, 2024, and June 4, 2024
- Eligibility:
- Users who have not received purchased items from the mailbox

Mad World Announcement – June 06, 2024
Although in-game purchases have been disabled as of today, Mad World remains free-to-play for new players on Steam and on the game’s homepage where I was surprised to find it running right in the browser window. Thanks to the anonymous reader who submitted the news, we’ve added the date to the Watch List calendar and will have a page up on the site later.
