JWaffle Games announced just over a week ago that Hellfire Tactics, their small multiplayer autobattler released just last November, will be shutting down at the end of February. The short but heartfelt post follows:
Sorry for the lack of updates, this past month I’ve been out of the country and simultaneously dealing with sick family members. Obviously this means there has been zero time to dedicate to anything else.
Unsurprisingly the HFT player base has dropped to a level that makes it unsustainable. We unfortunately never reached the critical mass that I was hoping for during the first month.
Due to ongoing server costs I’m sadly going to have to shut down HFT. It’s not an easy decision to make, but I don’t have the time or continuing finances to keep it alive right now. The experience of making this game and seeing this community blossom has been incredible. I want to give a special shout out to HappinessLTD for helping with everything from support to game design since the very first beta. Jeff also deserves a mention for his relentless Rat antics along with always being there to help the community.
Its with a heavy heart I’ll be clicking the big red button on February 28th.
I hope this won’t be a final goodbye as if I find some time in the future, I definitely want to bring some other game ideas to life (hopefully ones without the need for expensive servers!)
If you have any questions, feel free to DM me or Happinessltd on Discord and we’ll try our best to get back to you in a reasonable time!
So long and thanks for all the rats!
Steam Announcement – January 21, 2023
For at least a little while longer you can still download the free-to-play title on Steam and check it out before the end of February. Thanks to Serrated-banner9 for submitting the news, I’ve added the date to the Watch List calendar and we’ll have a page up on the site later.
