Something wicked this way comes. Or so it seems as Nintendo has been removing hundreds of store pages from nintendo.com for DSiWare games, including their older news posts about them. Based on my own research and a submission from site reader Alex, the pages started disappearing in late March. It’s a real shame as these pages were among the only places left to see how DSiWare games were presented on release.
The good news is that the majority of DSiWare games are still available to buy directly from the Nintendo 3DS eShop… but for how much longer? With the 3DS hobbling into old age and a barren release lineup for 2019, it would probably be best to pick up any DSiWare titles that catch your interest as soon as possible.
To help, I’ve recorded two new videos: the first showing how to search for DSiWare titles from a Nintendo 3DS, and the second, a full scroll through the currently available 455 North American DSiWare games. And for just a few recommendations, here are some fan-favorite and easily forgotten titles I found while browsing:
- Cult favorite Little Red Riding Hood’s Zombie BBQ
- PopCap’s Plants vs Zombies, Bejeweled Twist, Bookworm, and Slingo Quest
- The oft-forgotten SteamWorld Tower Defense
- The digital incarnation of Hudson’s famed Shooting Watch
- The well-rated, 4-part, Action/RPG series Anonymous Notes – From the Abyss-
- Loads of music sequencers like Rhythm Core Alpha, Rytmik, Jam Space, and Music On
- Mobile game favorites including the Bloons series, Flight Control, and Cut the Rope!
- Nintendo’s own Game & Watch, Electroplankton, and Art Style titles (PiCTOBiTS highly recommended)
- The stylish and absurd Valet Parking 1989
- The addictive puzzle classic, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
- WayForward’s fledgling Mighty Milky Way
- And all of Nintendo’s bizarre “calculator” and “calendar” apps
