Delisting
On October 9th, 2020 Relentless Studios published a blog post to announce the short future remaining for Crucible. Leading up to this announcement was a rocky road for Crucible, beginning with a delayed release from March to May at the hands of coronavirus complications. After middling feedback from players started rolling in the team “un-released” the game, returning it to Closed Beta status on July 1st, 2020. Some gameplay modes were excised entirely but steady updates continued into September until the October 9th announcement was made:
In July we moved Crucible into closed beta. We made a list of features we felt would enhance the player experience, which we shared publicly on our roadmap, and with the exception of custom games (which we expect to ship in the coming days), we completed them all. With those features shipped, our next step was to evaluate the feedback we’ve heard from you, paired with the data we’ve collected, to determine our path forward.
Signing off once more, -the Crucible team
That evaluation led us to a difficult decision: we’ll be discontinuing development on Crucible. We very much appreciate the way that our fans have rallied around our efforts, and we’ve loved seeing your responses to the changes we’ve made over the last few months, but ultimately we didn’t see a healthy, sustainable future ahead of Crucible. We’ll be transitioning our team to focus on New World and other upcoming projects from Amazon Games.
We’re offering a full refund for any purchases made. You can find more information on our support page. We will also be disabling credit purchases within Crucible.
In the next few weeks we’ll be hosting a final playtest and community celebration, both in-game and in our official Discord. After that point we’ll be disabling matchmaking, although you’ll still be able to play Crucible through the custom games feature. Stay tuned for more information on that event. Servers will stay up for custom games until noon PST on Monday, November 9, 2020.
Thank you, as always, for being part of our community. This has been a labor of love, and we’re grateful for the time we got to spend on planet Crucible with you.
On the same day, the team disabled in-game purchases and removed Crucible from Steam for new players.
About the Game
Each match in Crucible is a fight for survival and control. Not only will you be going toe-to-toe with your fellow competitors, but you’ll have to adapt and overcome all the challenges the planet itself throws your way. You and your teammates will need to work together to take down alien creatures, capture objectives, and pursue your opponents in search of victory.
Whether you prefer to bring an axe to a gunfight, think that the best way to solve problems is by lighting them on fire, or want to keep your options open with multiple weapons, there’s a hunter to suit your playstyle. Each hunter comes with their own unique set of abilities—how you use them is up to you. Further customize your battle tactics with upgrades that augment your hunter’s natural abilities, so you’ll get stronger and more deadly as each match progresses.
Hives are lethal drone-spitting terrors that spawn across the battlefield. Capturing the hearts they leave behind as they die is your key to victory. Each match is a four-on-four fight to be the first team to capture three hearts.
