[UPDATE 04/22/23] AQR developer Scheme Street and Mini Metro’s Dinosaur Polo Club each posted this past week to explain the situation they found themselves in in relation to their respective games.
Dinosaur Polo Club’s post explains the legal situation in detail, something they’d kept quiet on previously out of respect for privacy. It’s a short but enlightening look at what goes into making and owning a game beyond the game itself. Scheme Street’s post confirms that AQR will now not be delisted and outlines their plans for upcoming updates. Our original post from April 11th continues below. Thanks to HandMaskTar for pointing out the updates.
Scheme Street announced on April 7th that their “clean and simple city road builder”, All Quiet Roads, will be leaving Steam at the end of April. An update is forthcoming that will remove any online connectivity so owners can continue to play the game after it’s been delisted. Developer Gwenanne has also confirmed that Steam Achievements should remain functional after the change as well.
All Quiet Roads has reached its end.
The game will be modified in the next few weeks to not require leaderboards nor any server assets. No more sales of AQR will happen after April, 2023. People who have purchased the game can continue playing it, but it will not be available to anyone new after April is over.
I got forced into this situation because of baseless claims that I haven’t the money nor energy to defend. It’s easier to just pull the plug. For all the loyal fans of AQR, I’m sorry. I made this game because it was close to my heart. I thought I was taking the genre of road building to exciting new places, introducing a multitude of unique gameplay features. I feel like that passion has been trampled upon. I feel like my player’s passion has been dismissed. I am sorry.
Steam Announcement – April 07, 2023
I’ve added an April 30th date to the Watch List calendar and we’ll have a page up on the site later. Thanks to Serrated-banner9 for submitting the news.
