Delisting
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum! was removed from Steam and GOG.com on May 7th, 2018. In a statement provided to Eurogamer, a GOG.com spokesperson said that “due to expiring licensing rights, we were asked to remove the product from our catalog for the time being. We’ll be in talks with new distribution rights holders to hopefully bring the game back as soon as possible”.
The Eurogamer article recaps the legal struggles between developer Frontier and publisher Atari which is almost certainly the cause of the game being delisted. The article latches onto the wording, “new distribution rights holders”, from the statement and implies that Frontier may have gained the rights to the game. However, Atari still owns the Rollercoaster Tycoon property and currently offers several products for sale under that banner. Once the legal action is settled Atari would likely need to draw up new contracts before the game could return to sale, and that may simply be putting a “new” Atari name on the deal.
