Delisting

GOG.com announced on February 8th, 2024 that the Early Access title, Hellish Quart, would be leaving the platform on February 15th. In an odd addendum, however, the announcement pointed out that the GOG.com version would continue to receive updates “to retain parity” with the still-available Steam release.

We’d like to inform you that due to the publisher’s request, Hellish Quart will be delisted from our catalog on Thursday, February 15th, 6 PM UTC. For everyone who purchased this title prior to the delisting, it will remain in their GOG library. Additionally, the Publisher informed us that the game will continue receiving updates to retain parity with versions from other storefronts.

GOG.com announcement – February 08, 2024

Developer Kubold made no public statement on social media or the game’s homepage about the decision but did provide a definitive answer on the game’s Steam Community forums when asked about the delisting.

Sure, I asked to delist from the storefront because almost nobody bought it there (ever, not just now), single digits per month, since the release. Everyone is here. It was an accounting liability. I will continue updating it for people who bought it there though.

And btw. the Steam version is also DRM-free.

Steam Community forum reply – February 14, 2024

Though not often, Kubold has also addressed the GOG.com release on the Steam forums in relation to performance issues. A comment on GOG’s original announcement also confirmed that at least one update has taken place for the game since its delisting but no information or changelog was provided.

About the Game

Hellish Quart is a physics-based sword fighting game set in 17th century Poland. With motion-captured fencing techniques and four gamepad buttons representing four attack angles, you’ll need to use timing, technique, and speed to defeat your opponents. Choose from a variety of warriors and fight in arcade mode, quick fights, survival mode, or local multiplayer. If you want to hone your sword fighting skills, you can spar with wooden weapons or train in modern HEMA gear. And for the ultimate experience, Hellish Quart also offers an optional VR mode.

Please note that the game is still in development and only supports local multiplayer.

  • physical Sword Fighting using Active Ragdolls
  • super realistic, motion captured fencing animations
  • challenging boss fight
  • optional VR mode

Hellish Quart utilizes active ragdolls and real-time physics to get you the ultimate fencing experience. You can attack from four different angles using the four gamepad buttons. Different button combinations enable special attacks and combos. When you are not attacking, your character automatically assumes a defensive stance, blocking your opponent’s attacks using the autoguard feature. Proper timing, technique, speed, measure, and wits are all crucial to winning, just like in real-world fencing.

The game is set in the historical 17th-century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the character models are based on 3D-scanned reconstructed clothes from that period. The single-player campaign, once completed, will be firmly rooted in the reality of life in the region. You will duel against Zaporozhian Cossacks, Polish Hussars, Tatars, Turkish Janissaries, Swedish Reiters, French Musketeers, and more.
