Crunchyroll recently began sending emails to subscribers about the end of service for some of its older console apps. The anime and drama streaming service that launched in 2006 was bought by Sony in 2021 and has provided apps for numerous game consoles, set-top boxes, and internet-enabled TVs over the years.
Although the consensus seems to be that most of these apps have been plagued by bugs and playback issues, they were at least functional for some users. As of August 29th however, they will no longer be available to download or use on Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation 3 and Vita, and Xbox 360.
This will leave the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S as the latest console offerings from Crunchyroll. I’ve added the date to the Watch List calendar and will have a page up on the site later.
