[UPDATE 04/06/21] Ubisoft has delayed the previously announced shutdowns until June 1st. They’ve also added a handful of Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six titles that will lose online features later in 2021: Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Rainbow Six Lockdown, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and Rainbow Six Vegas. Our original post from March 29th continues.
Ubisoft has updated their Online Services Masterlist with 8 older titles that will be losing online features as of May 22nd, 2021 June 1st, 2021. Though not all of the games include each feature, Ubisoft points out that this includes multiplayer gameplay, in-game news and stat tracking, Ubisoft Connect features, Uplay “Units” and “Actions”, and any “ULC”. Ubisoft didn’t make a new statement about this update but the pinned post offers the same explanation as in years past:
We are constantly assessing what’s needed to deliver the best possible online services for Ubisoft’s customers. Shutting the services for some older games with smaller online audiences is a necessary part of this process, since it allows our IT and service staff to better focus on delivering great online experiences to the vast majority of customers who are playing newer, more popular titles. Still, we don’t take the decision to retire services for older Ubisoft games lightly, and we understand some of you may be disappointed by this news. We are happy to have fans that are as committed as you have been to these brands and titles, and we hope that you’ll find more recent or upcoming Ubisoft games which you can be equally as passionate about. Thank you for your understanding and your support.
The affected titles below are listed for PC only. The functionality of the console versions of these games may differ although they have likely already been affected over the preceding years.
- Assassin’s Creed 2
- Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands
- Far Cry 2
- Anno 1404
- Might & Magic – Clash of Heroes
- Splinter Cell Conviction
- The Settlers 7
- Might & Magic X – Legacy
Thanks to Wakayama_PT for pointing out the updated. I’ve added the May 22nd June 1st date to the Watch List calendar.
