Delisting
On July 29, 2024, users reported that the Xbox 360 era but backwards compatible game Sonic Generations was delisted from xbox.com. While this coincided with the complete shutdown of the Xbox 360 marketplace, that was not the reason for the delisting as the game runs on newer Xbox hardware. Sonic fan site Sonic Stadium speculates:
This should come as no real surprise, as Sonic x Shadow Generations’ release is due in just a few short months. SEGA is no stranger to this kind of practice either, having previously delisted almost all digital rereleases of Classic Sonic titles to make way for Sonic Origins.
If you are worried Sonic x Shadow Generations has the potential to downgrade the original experience, or if you want to make sure you can experience the decade’s worth of incredible mods for the PC version, let this be the final warning. If you wish to purchase Generations on PS3 and especially Steam, act as soon as possible. You’ll never know when they will go down either.

On August 9th, 2024, Sega announced the delisting of Sonic Generations as a standalone title on Steam starting September 9th, 2024.
The game remains available on physical media.
About the Game
Released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Generations is a platform game in which players control two variants of Sonic the Hedgehog: Classic or Modern. Classic Sonic’s gameplay is restricted side-scrolling gameplay similar to the original Sonic the Hedgehog games released in the 1990s, and requires him to use moves such as the Spin Dash and the Spin Attack. Modern Sonic’s gameplay follows the gameplay style of Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors featuring an amalgamation of third-person and side-scrolling perspectives and techniques such as boosting and homing attacks.
