The Hokkaido Serial Murder Case unexpectedly delisted on European eShop

The excellent retro-focused blog, Time Extension, pointed out this past Friday that the Nintendo Switch release of The Hokkaido Serial Murder Case: The Okhotsk Disappearance had itself disappeared from the eShop across Europe. The game is a remake of Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii’s 1984 Famicom adventure title which was just recently confirmed to retain a risque easter egg which might be the culprit for what is hopefully only a temporary delisting.

Publisher G-Mode hasn’t publicly addressed the removal but it would appear that the brief sighting of nudity is most likely the cause for the game’s removal. Presumably the content is being altered or the game is under review to receive a more mature rating before its return.

For the time being, the English language release of The Hokkaido Serial Murder Case remains available on the eShop in North America and on PC on Steam. And if the disappearance has you suddenly clamoring for a physical release you can pick it up on Switch with the English subtitles and the original Famicom version included to boot.
