I lost track of the news last Fall when Konami first announced it but there’s still time to play Some Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes before its online services are shut down on May 31st. Based on the game’s manual, those online services amount to a set of global, friend, and rival leaderboards that track various stats on your performance. Launched in the heyday of “companion apps”, Ground Zeroes also offered an iDroid app on Android and iOS that tied into the game but that functionality has been gone for years.
Konami’s announcement about Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes from August 31st, 2021 follows:
Thank you for playing METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES. We regret to inform our users that online services for METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES will be terminated on 2022-05-31 06:00 (UTC).

METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROESSchedule of Events (UTC)
2022-05-31 06:00 Retirement of Service* While the online service will end the main game will still playable offline.
* Changes to the schedule may be made without prior notice.
As far as we can tell, the game will remain on sale on all platforms and there are no Achievements or Trophies tied to the online services. The leaderboard features will apparently continue to function in the Steam version of the game as well. Thanks to everyone who pointed out the news — last Fall and last week — I’ve added the date to the Watch List calendar.
