Delisting
Legends of Aria was removed from Steam on September 1st, 2022. Originally Kickstarted in 2014 as Shards Online the game changed names and hands over the years, initially being acquired by Blue Monster Games in late 2021 that later became Reaper Games in early 2022. At the time the game was being retooled to incorporate blockchain and NFT elements as well as a new version of the 3D engine that would change its presentation from an isometric to a third-person perspective.
In a roadmap update posted to Medium on May 3rd, 2022 the plan was to rebrand the game as Legends of Aria Classic while the new engine would power both a free-to-play and play-to-earn version of the game featuring the blockchain and NFT content. However, shortly after the game’s removal from Steam, trading of the $ARIA token was put on pause until the game’s new name, Britaria, and matching $DREAD token were unveiled on September 30th.
As of January 26th, 2023 it is still possible to sign up for a Legends of Aria account and download an executable but we did not investigate further to see if any form of the game is playable. Attempts to subscribe to the various tiers of membership from the game’s homepage also resulted in a redirect.
Meanwhile, the ‘Play Now’ button on Britaria.io leads to a ‘Coming Soon’ page while the game’s Twitter account has promised “early-access in 2023”. Although Britaria has been billed as a rebranding of Legends of Aria, some of Britaria’s press copy claims that it is a direct sequel.
