As we get ever closer to a day when the doors shut for good on the PlayStation Store for Sony’s legacy consoles, we’re thinking more and more about the content that will be lost. Beyond the games themselves there’s DLC and add-ons, Themes, Avatars, and the rare soundtrack release. We’ve even seen folks express interest in archiving the digital manuals for Vita games.
But a new angle we hadn’t considered are games who have demos that also unlock exclusive content in the full game. These bonuses are rarely documented outside of pre-release coverage or marketing posts on social media. Reader @GamesJames16 recently mentioned a few titles with known unlockables on PlayStation Portable and turned us onto this short list compiled on r/PSP:
- Patapon 1 demo
- Patapon 2 demo
- Gladiator Begins demo
- Ape Quest Starter Pack: It’s a demo, but required for playing the DLC
- Lunar: Silver Star Harmony
- Eye of Judgment Legends
Doing a little bit of digging I also turned up a pair of Final Fantasy titles — Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy Type-0 — as well as the PSP’s Yakuza spin-off, Black Panther: Like a Dragon New Chapter that all offer some kind of bonus in the full game.
