All LittleBigPlanet servers offline after continued attacks [UPDATED]

[UPDATE 06/25/21] Just wanted to update that the @LittleBigPlanet account pinned another tweet on June 7th stating that “we apologise for the continued downtime on the LBP servers. Currently we do not have an ETA for when the server will be back online, but please be rest assured that we are working to restore service asap”.

Amid continued DDoS attacks and a hack that allowed offensive messages to be displayed to players, Sony has taken all LittleBigPlanet servers offline temporarily as of May 22nd. Eurogamer has been keeping up with the situation, reporting on earlier attacks in March that kept some content offline into late April. Although unconfirmed, reports indicate that the perpetrator of these attacks may also be responsible for the continued outage of LBP.me, the community hub for the series that has been offline since last November.

After months of testing “new security updates” amid these ongoing attacks it seems Sony’s only option is to shut everything down for what will hopefully be an overhaul of the series’ online infrastructure. There is currently no announced timeframe for the return of online content for the games. Thanks Benjamin Grieve for pointing out the news to the site.
