The PlayStation 3 is a console video game platform created by Sony Interactive Entertainment and the follow-up to the PlayStation 2. Released in Japan and North America in November of 2006 and in Europe and Australia in late March 2007. Like its contemporary, the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 fully incorporated online functionality to bring Friends lists, activity feeds, online multiplayer, a Trophy system and digital distribution to players.
